In a day when you can buy a Dell dual core machine for $500, it is also a great way to spend more money. Considering the life span of hard disks, using an old relic for more than data transfer is a terrific way to lose data. As for Win 95 and Win 98, not only are they vulnerable to every hack that the mind of an

I just installed 64 bit Vista Ultimate, retail full version, in what I thought was a dual boot environment. I added a new sata hard drive, and installed Vista on it. Now, I do not get an option when I boot to choose wich OS to boot to, it only boots into Vista. Under Vista, it shows as my C drive, I see the partion

WinXP has compatibility mode that allows you to run many Win9x games on it that would fail otherwise, but I do not think it is 100% foolproof. So, I guess I need DOS (6.22 or DOSBox), Win98 and also XP. If I go the DOSBox route, I guess that means dual-boot with w98 + XP? I guess the meaning was that you would have

How to achieve actual use of my full 4 GB RAM,
I highly advise not to attempt to upgrade an existing Win98 installation... Seconded. either backup your data and format the drive to perform a clean install. Or add a 2nd HD, install Win2k there and dual boot. Or forget the dual boot and just keep the old hard drive as your 'data backup' of the old system.

Also, I have MS Office 97 (though I'm running the latest IE7, OE, and Word 2000) but would I be better off (if so or not, why?) using the full version of Outlook 97 instead of OE 6? Dual boot: I use partition magic and boot magic so I can't tell you the 'hard 'n' dirty way' to do it. No problem.

My ia64 machines use serial consoles, because syscons hasn't been ported (and I'm not planning to yet). However, it would be great if we could get the EFI loader working in graphics mode already and it would be especially great if that doesn't break the dual console setting in EFI. Then you'll have to repair the Vista boot files. This KB Article (not for the faint of heart) explains how to repair the Vista boot process after installing WinXP: Windows Vista no longer starts after you install an earlier version of the Windows operating system in a dual-boot configuration

This is been the startup file configuration ever since WinNT4.0, at least; that's where I started dual-booting, first with Win95, which I quickly upgraded to Win98. I re-installed XP Home to it's old partition and it boots and I can access everything from there, but I need to restore the XP 64 boot option.
